What to expect?

Mid - High end CPUs (also referred to as processors) - Intel Core i5/i7/i9 / Ryzen 5/7/9

Mid end GPU - 6 GB graphics or higher

Ram - 16 GB

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Note that all Architecture-related applications are very resource intensive as they use a lot of the performance available on the laptop or desktops to their full extent. More importantly, they use up a LOT of memory or RAM. So if you are a user who uses multiple applications such as these at once (such as Photoshop, Sketchup, Lumion, Autocad etc at the same time), then it doesn't matter what laptop you purchase, if it has 16GB or less amount of RAM, then it WILL most definitely slow down depending on the load. This is NOT due to lack of performance of the processor or graphics card but simply because your PC does not have enough RAM to manage all the open applications. While 16GB Ram used to be a good amount of memory 5-10 Years ago, It has become almost a bare minimum now to have at least 16GB to run applications smoothly. Upgrading to 32GB or more is highly recommended for high-end users.

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700H 14C / 20T | GPU: RTX 4060 8GB 140W | Ram: 16GB DDR4 | SSD: 512 GB | Display: 15.6" FHD 144 Hz - 100% sRGB Coverage | Weight: 2.2Kg

ASUS TUF Gaming F15 (2023)

Pros

+ Excellent CPU and GPU pairing

+ Best Graphics Card in this price segment

+ Dual SSD and RAM slots

+ Good Color Gamut

+ Relatively light compared to the alternatives

Cons

No Major cons

Who is this for?

Designers, architects, and architecture students will find this laptop an excellent choice for their requirements.

At just under Rs 1 Lakh, the ASUS TUF Gaming F15 (2023) FX507ZV-LP094W offers an excellent balance between performance, price, and display quality. Three of which together are often not easy to find at this price segment. The Intel 12th gen i7 has excellent single and multi-core performance with 14 cores. This is a great choice for Revit users since Revit has started supporting and using up to 16 cores in its recent releases. However, for most of the tasks, only a single core will be used which is also the case with most general applications.

It also has the latest generation RTX 4060 with 8GB VRAM. This is as good as it gets at this price segment. With support for technologies such as DLSS3 and Frame Generation, real-time walkthroughs and modeling in applications such as D5 Render will benefit from this, thereby offering higher framerates than a last-generation RTX 3070Ti 8GB. In simple words, if you are looking for the smoothest experience, this is as good as it gets under 1 Lakh.

It also has the usual 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Both of which I would highly recommend upgrading. Architectural applications are very RAM-hungry, and if you tend to use multiple applications and open multiple projects at the same time, you definitely need to upgrade to 32GB RAM or more. Without this upgrade, you could have the best processor and graphics card on your laptop but it is still going to lag while multi-tasking or handling huge projects.

Bottom Line: Easily the Editor's recommendation for the best overall laptop in this price segment.

CPU: Intel Core i7-12650H 10 Cores 16 Threads | GPU: RTX 3070 Ti 8GB 150W | Ram: 16GB | SSD: 1 TB | Display: 15.6" QHD 165 Hz - 100% sRGB Coverage | Weight: 2.6kg

Pros

+ Decent CPU and GPU pairing

+ Dual SSD and RAM slots

+ Sharp QHD display with good colors

+ Single channel ram - Easy scope for ram upgrade

Cons

No Major cons

- Single channel ram - Would require adding another ram to get the full performance.

- No DLSS3 and Frame Gen support

Who is this for?

Designers, Architects, and Architecture students will find this laptop fairly reliable for their software requirements. If 3D visualization and walkthroughs are a priority, the RTX 3070 Ti 8GB is one of the best graphics card on a laptop that you can get at this price segment.

Let me start off by saying that, I do not recommend this laptop as long as the above mentioned ASUS TUF Gaming F15 (2023) FX507ZV-LP094W is in stock. It does not have as good a processor or graphics card either, thermals or efficiency either. However, it is a good alternative worth considering if you find this at a really low price or if the TUF F15 is out of stock.

As far as specification goes, you still get a very capable 12th gen i7 but with fewer cores in comparison (still has 10 cores). You still get a well performing 8GB RTX 3070Ti graphics card for your 3D Modelling and rendering needs. You can easily add another 16GB RAM to upgrade the RAM to 32GB RAM. However, note that Acer requires the user to take the laptop to an authorized service center to get any upgrades done as doing it by yourself will void your warranty. Notably, it also has a QHD display which makes the display very sharp.

Bottom Line: Alternative to the above mentioned TUF that is to be only considered if the TUF is out of stock.

3. Lenovo LOQ 15IRH8 (2023) - Customized - Editor's Alternative Choice

CPU: Intel i7-13620H 10 cores | GPU: RTX 4060 8GB 115W | Ram: 16GB DDR5 | SSD: 1TB | Display: 15.6" QHD 165 Hz - 100% sRGB Coverage | Weight: 2.4 Kg

Pros

+ Upgradeable RAM and Storage.

+ Excellent CPU and GPU combination

+ Excellent performance

+ Excellent sharp display

+ Good Color Gamut

Cons

- Takes around 4 WEEKS to deliver - Not the best battery life

Who is this for?

Designers, Architects, and Architecture students that are either fans of Lenovo or does not really like the appeal of the TUF F15 or for those of you that need the newest and best Graphics Card along with a sharp QHD display. And for those who can wait about a month for the delivery.

Let me start of by saying that this Lenovo LOQ 15IRH8 (2023) is a custom ordered laptop to your specifications.

Buying Instructions: You need to go to the product link and then select the following configuration - Intel i7-13620H Processor, RTX 4060 8GB Graphics Card, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR5 RAM (if you are planning to upgrade the RAM immediately, then consider getting the 8GB RAM variant so that you only have to replace one RAM module to upgrade your RAM), 1TB TLC SSD, and QHD 165Hz 350 nits display. You can also add the 3Y Premium Care + 3Y Accidental Damage Protection upgrade at just Rs 3,000 for a period of 3 years which should ensure some peace of mind for fixing that unexpected coffee spill on your keyboard during a midnight design session. While regular warranty does not cover this, the Accidental Damage Protection or ADP does cover this. So yes, irrespective of the laptop you get, try and get this protection plan.

Note that this laptop costs Rs 1,15,368 after configuring and then you can use the coupon UNBOX3CTO to get a 3% instant discount of Rs 3,371 bringing the final price to be paid at Rs 1,11,996. If you choose to pay this with any credit card as a non-EMI transaction, you can get a cashback of Rs 10,000 within 30 days of purchase. This effectively brings the cost of the laptop to Rs 1,01,996. While this is still slightly over Rs 1 Lakh, it deserves the spot on this list for all that it offers.

As for how this laptop performs, the Lenovo LOQ 15IRH8 (2023) has a modern looking design with a good build quality and has some of the best processor and graphics card combinations. The same RTX 4060 8GB graphics card as mentioned in the first recommendation (TUF Gaming F15) powers this device. However, this LOQ can be customised to have a sharper QHD display panel and it also has the newer DDR5 RAM which gives you a slight boost in performance as well. Powered by a 13th gen Intel Core i7 with 10 cores, this is a very dependable laptop that covers all your needs. However, it has a 60WHr battery, so don't expect more than 2-3 hours of battery life but then again, that is the case with most high-end laptops since they consume a lot of power.

Bottom Line: Editor's alternative to the TUF Gaming F15 if you can wait for a while for it to deliver and can pay with credit card as a non-EMI transaction.

Pros

+ Best in-segment Battery life

+ Excellent performance

+ Power-efficient CPU

+ Good display color gamut

Cons

- Not the fastest at this price.

Who is this for?

Designers, Architects, and Architecture students looking for the best battery life will find this an excellent choice due to its balance between performance, price and battery life.

The ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513RM-HF274WS (2022) is an Ideal choice for Designers and students on a budget. While this does not have the best processor and GPU configuration, it is a relatively older generation high-end laptop that has now dropped in price. Hence it still offers very competitive performance along with features such as good display, cooling, power efficient Ryzen 7 processor and a capable RTX 3060 6GB 140W graphics card. For students and professionals prioritizing battery life, this is a laptop worth looking into.

Bottom Line: Excellent balance between performance, and battery life. Easy recommendation for the best battery life in this price segment.

CPU: Ryzen 7 7840HS 8 cores | GPU: RTX 4060 8GB 115W | Ram: 16 GB DDR5 | SSD: 512 GB | Display: 15.6" FHD 144 Hz - 45% NTSC Coverage | Weight: 2.4Kg

Lenovo LOQ (2023)

Pros

+ Excellent power-efficient CPU

+ Excellent CPU and GPU performance

Cons

- Not the best battery life

- Display is not color accurate and hence using external monitor is recommended for color sensitive work

Who is this for?

Designers/Architects/Students looking for a laptop that looks like a Legion but doesn't cost as much. Simply put, it is a modern looking high end laptop with the best processor and graphics card on this list. But then why is it at the bottom?

This is the Lenovo LOQ 15APH8 (2023) 82XT004KIN. It is known for its value due to its excellent performance for the price. Not only is the processor the best performing at this price segment, it is also very power efficient meaning it does not require a lot of power to perform well. This helps with battery life, cooling and performance without always having to connect to your charger.

The only downside is the lack of a color accurate display. A standard panel can display 100% sRGB color gamut which means your sheets, designs and everything else that you see on your monitor will be very close to the output you get when you print them or display them on other other monitors. But a 45% NTSC color gamut is about 65% sRGB which means this laptop cannot display about 35% of the usual color space hence lowering the overall color accuracy which leads to color mismatch across devices or in prints. If color accuracy doesn't matter to you or if you will be using an external display for color sensitive documents, then this is one of the best performing laptops worth buying in this price segment.

For reference, if you want to know how bad the colors would be, consider this. If you have been using a high performance / gaming laptop under Rs 80,000 previously, chances are that ALL of them have had 45% NTSC displays. So this is nothing uncommon in the lower price segments and may not matter to a lot of users as you may already be using a similar laptop display panel without realizing it.

Bottom Line: Best performing high end laptop at this price segment with an average display color gamut.
