What to expect?

Mid - High end CPUs (also referred to as processors) - Intel Core i5/i7 / Ryzen 5/7

Basic Integrated GPU for light gaming / 3D related tasks

Ram - 8 GB or higher

Keep in mind while reading this article that CPU = processor and GPU = Graphics Card. CPU is commonly misinterpreted or wrongly referred to as the Tower / Cabinet / case of a desktop PC with its internals. This is in fact wrong and CPU actually means the processor inside.

Today's thin and light laptops or ultrabooks or 2-in-1 laptops have come a long way from what they used to be. They have improved in all aspects such as in performance, ergonomics, build quality, touch input, battery life etc.

These laptops are not meant for the users whose primary priority is performance. For the best performance on a laptop, look into gaming / creator / workstation laptops which are designed to offer the best performance for sustained period of time. 2-in-1 laptops are primarily suited for designers, students, content creators, artists etc who can quickly switch to a tablet mode usage when required.

2-in-1 Laptops below Rs 1,00,000 or Rs 1 Lakh

This segment sees quite a few laptops with decent specifications. However in some cases, rams are limited to 8 GB which while enough for small scale users, will definitely be a setback for multi taskers. An upgrade to 16 GB by purchasing an 8 GB ram module (if supported) is highly recommended.
Note that all thin and light laptops may NOT support ram upgrading. Hence, stick to 16 GB ram options if your usage involves consistently using over 8 GB of ram.

Tip: To check whether additional ram will give you a performance boost, run task manager when PC becomes sluggish or slows down while using multiple apps or takes time to load. Under the performance tab, click on the Memory Tab. Under the memory section, check the committed Ram usage. If this usage is consistently over your ram capacity, then you should consider upgrading / adding ram. Before buying new ram, ensure that it will be compatible with your laptop and that it supports ram upgrading. It is recommended that you check your existing ram specification through an application like CPU-Z.

Lenovo Yoga 7 82BH00E0IN is a 14in 2-in-1 notebook powered by the Intel i7-1165G7 quad core CPU and Irix Xe integrated graphics. Paired with 16 GB of ram and 512 GB of SSD, it offers an excellent balance of performance / price in this price segment. With an all metal chassis, a vibrant display, excellent performance and a large battery life, this is one of the only options in this segment that offers plenty of features without compromising a lot on in other areas. For most users the lack of SD card reader may not matter and if needed an SD Card reader is an option. It also lacks ram upgradeability which is common among thin and light laptops. Also, the 16 GB ram should be sufficient for most users. Check out the link below for the current prices, full specifications and user reviews from flipkart.com.

Paired with 16 GB of ram and 512 GB of SSD, it offers an excellent balance of performance / price in this price segment. With an all metal chassis, a vibrant display, excellent performance and a large battery life, this is very similar to the i7 variant mentioned above and is again one of the only options in this segment that offers plenty of features without compromising a lot on in other areas. As with the i7 variant, for most users the lack of SD card reader may not matter and if needed an SD Card reader is an option. It also lacks ram upgradeability which is common among thin and light laptops. Also, the 16 GB ram should be sufficient for most users. ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED UX363EA-HP502TS is a 13.3in 2 in 1 notebook powered by the Intel i5 1135G7 quad core CPU and Iris Xe integrated graphics. Paired with 8 GB of ram and 512 GB of SSD, this laptop might not offer the best performance or multi tasking capabilities due to the 8 GB Ram limitation. However, for casual users or users who primarily intend to use it for content consumption, this should offer one of the best viewing experiences due to the excellent colors and contrast of the OLED panel. Check out the link below for the current prices, full specifications and user reviews from Amazon.in

Bottom line: Best viewing experience on a 2 in 1 laptop in this price segment

Note: If you have a lot of multi tasking requirements, it suggested to opt for 16GB ram laptops. As of the time of writing, Zenbook Flip 13 with 16 GB Ram isn't available at any reasonable price point.

CPU: Intel Core i5-1135G7 | GPU: Intel Iris Xe 80 EU | Ram: 8 GB | SSD: 512 GB | Display: 13.3in FHD 60Hz - 100% sRGB | Weight: 997g

+ Good CPU

+ One of the lightest laptops

+ Decent battery life

+ Good display

- Thick bezels / looks outdated

- Lacks fingerprint reader

Fujitsu UH-X 4ZR1D71992 is a 13.3in 2 in 1 notebook weighing in at just under 1 Kg making this the lightest 2 in 1 laptop. It is powered by a 11th gen quad core i5 CPU much like the others on the list. The light-weightedness is indeed the highlight but it does lose out on a rather common feature present in most thin and light laptops these days. A fingerprint sensor. The regular variant (not 2 in 1) of the Fujitsu UH-X does however get a fingerprint sensor. Paired with 8 GB of ram and 512 GB of SSD storage, it is similar to the other options on this list. The display also gets a good 400 nits brightness and 100% sRGB color gamut. Now while this may not offer as good a viewing experience as an OLED panel, it is a rather good IPS panel. Check out the link below for the current prices, full specifications and user reviews from flipkart.com

Bottom line: Best CPU / processor on a laptop in this price segment.

CPU: Intel Core i5-1135G7 | GPU: Intel Iris Xe 80 EU | Ram: 8 GB | SSD: 512 GB | Display: 13.3in FHD 60Hz - 100% sRGB | Weight: 1.32Kg

+ Good CPU

+ Good battery life

+ Compact

+ Good display color gamut

- Display could have been less reflective

HP Envy x360 13-BD0004TU is a 13.3in 2 in 1 notebook that is very similar to the above mentioned Fujitsu option. However it is not as light weight but does offer additional features such as a fingerprint reader. It also flaunts a rather minimal design that might be more appealing to office / business users. Check out the link below for the current prices, full specification and user reviews from Flipkart.com

Bottom line: Professional looking feature packed 2 in 1 laptop that does the job. However, as always make sure you do not require more than 8 GB ram. If you have a good amount of multi tasking requirements, always opt for 16 GB ram variants.

CPU: Ryzen 7 5700U | GPU: Radeon Vega 8 | Ram: 16 GB | SSD: 512 GB | Display: 14in FHD 60Hz - 45% NTSC | Weight: 1.5Kg

+ Excellent CPU

+ Good Integrated Graphics

+ 16 GB Ram by default

- Not 100% sRGB color gamut

- Not as bright as others on the list

Dell Inspiron 7415 D560472WIN9P is a 2 in 1 14in notebook powered by the Ryzen 7 5700H 8 core CPU and a Vega 8 integrated graphics. Paired with 16 GB of ram and 512 GB of SSD, it does offer more ram than others on this list. This along with the higher core count makes it ideal for multi threaded workloads and multi tasking. However, the display panel on this laptop is not as capable as some of the others on this list in terms of color reproduction and might appear dull when compared next to each other. Although for most regular users this may not be an issue and will not affect the performance of the laptop.

Bottom line: Good balance between price and performance.

ASUS Vivobook Flip 14 TM420UA-EC701TS is a 2 in 1 14in notebook powered by the Ryzen 7 5700H 8 core CPU and a Vega 8 integrated graphics much like the above mentioned Dell Inspiron with the exception of lower ram capacity. With very similar specifications including the weight, it comes down to the user preference, although we would prefer the Dell Inspiron for the higher ram capacity and sturdier build.

Check out the link below for the current prices, full specification and user reviews from Amazon.in.

Bottom line: Alternative option in this price range with an 8 core CPU.
