LG Gram 2021 - India | Price, availability and launch dates | August 2021

The 2021 range of LG Gram lineup was launched in India on Wednesday 4th August 2021. The LG Gram is the thinnest and lightest laptop offering from LG which has over the years become a favourite among bloggers, travellers and anyone who needs an easily portable lightweight laptop. The new 2021 lineup consists of 3 models differentiated by their screen sizes. LG Gram 14Z90P, LG Gram 16Z90P and LG Gram 17Z90P are the currently available 3 different models. At the moment, the lightest among the 3 models, the LG Gram 14 weighs just under 1KG at 999g. Pricing LG Gram 14 14Z90P-G.AJ55A2 (2021) - Rs 73,990

The LG Gram 14 is currently available only with an Intel core i5 11th gen CPU and an 8 GB ram. The processor is a power efficient quad core CPU with excellent single core speeds. Note that the 8 GB ram is dual channel which means you get all the performance benefits of dual channel memory. However on the down side, the ram is soldered and hence not upgradeable. So, if you have are a user with heavy multi tasking needs, you will find the ram insufficient. With 512 GB of SSD, it offers a decent amount of storage for your applications and general data. The display offers excellent color reproduction capabilities and has a 16:10 aspect ratio which helps for viewing vertical content such as for reading e-books or for any other applications that can make use of the additional vertical workspace as compared to regular 16:9 displays. At 72Whr Battery, it packs a large battery relative to its size allowing to offer a truly all day battery life with up to 25 hours (18.5 hours in battery tests) of usage as advertised.

The pricing for this model starts at Rs 73,990 and is now available to purchase from Amazon during the Freedom Sale. LG Gram 14Z90P-G.AJ55A2 (2021) - Rs 73,990 - Amazon Link

The LG Gram 16 base configuration is very similar to the LG Gram 14 with the same CPU, ram and storage configurations. However, the LG Gram 16 offers QHD+ display as compared to the FHD display on the Gram 14. In fact the LG Gram 14 is the only model in the lineup to not offer a QHD display as of now. However, it should be noted that at 14", an FHD display is still plenty sharp for most users. For reference, it is significantly sharper than a regular FHD 24in monitor or even a QHD 27in monitor. The LG Gram 16 also offers slightly less battery life (16.5 hours) than the Gram 14 in comparison due to its higher resolution and larger size. It is also only about 200g heavier than the Gram 14 despite the size differences.

The Gram 16 also gets a second configuration with a 11th Gen Intel Core i7 and 16 GB ram. This might be a more appealing configuration to power users due to the additional ram. Refer below for the specifications of the higher end configuration.

With the exact same configuration options powered by either a 11th gen i5 or i7, the LG Gram 17 is very similar to the Gram 16. Below are the LG Gram 17 configurations that are currently available.

Should you get this?

If you are looking for the lightest 16in or 17in laptops, LG Gram 16 and 17 are pretty much the best options you can get in terms of portability and the performance it offers.

However, if you are looking for thin and light 14in or smaller laptops, you can look into options like the Rog Flow X13 (1.3kg) for the best performance, or the newly launched HP Aero 13 (999g) which offers a better 6 core processor albeit relatively lower battery life. If you can handle something slightly heavier, you should also probably look into the Asus Zephyrus G14 lineup which weighs in at around 1.6kg but offers a whole lot of CPU and GPU performance. The GPU performance is something that most thin and light laptops lack unless you are counting external GPUs such as the one on the Flow X13.
