Asus VivoBook K15 OLED (2021) - Amazon Link (Can be added to cart but product page link will start working only when the sale begins)

Asus Vivobook K15 OLED has been launched on 30th September 2021 on Amazon.in. By far this is the most exciting launch for us in the thin and light laptop segment and we were pleasantly surprised by the pricing as well. As the name suggests, the ASUS VivoBook K15 OLED offers an OLED panel being the first to offer it in the budget laptop segment starting at just Rs 45,990! OLED panel monitors and laptops have always carried a huge price tag and this is the first time that an OLED panel based laptop has become available in the sub Rs 80,000 segment making this the cheapest and the most affordable OLED laptop in India. Earlier this year, Asus had launched the Zenbook 13 OLED laptops as part of their premium Zenbook lineup (currently available starting at Rs 82,290) as well. The efforts to push OLED panels into mainstream laptops, now even at a budget segment is a commendable move.

As of now, two models are available ASUS VivoBook Ultra K15 OLED K513EA-L303TS and ASUS VivoBook Ultra K15 OLED K513EA-L512TS powered by the Intel 11th gen Core i3 and i5 CPUs respectively.

The specifications are as follows:

If you are getting this or any other Asus Laptop for that matter, it is recommended that you visit asuspromo.in and register for extended warranty within 15 days of purchase to get extended 2 year warranty (for a total of 3 years) at a much discounted rate than normally available from MyASUS app.

Verdict

So far we are yet to see any real life reviews of this laptop but based on the spec sheet and Asus history of OLED panels such as the ones used in Zenbooks, this is going to be a very interesting laptop, perhaps one that we would bet on if we were looking for a laptop for casual use or movie consumption with an emphasis on the movie / content consumption. Based on the specifications mentioned on the Asus website, it also appears to support HDR600 with 600 nits peak brightness which places the display panel on this laptop among the top tier ones commonly found in laptops worth over 2Lakhs.

Apart from obsessing over the display, the rest of the specifications are not any less worthy of mentioning either. It features a metallic lid, has a fingerprint sensor, offers WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5, has one ram expansion slot and is powered by the excellent performing 11th gen CPUs which have already been established in thin and light laptops this year.

Should you get this?

As for should you get this, here is what we think. If you are someone who needs a thin and light laptop with a display that punches way above its class, or in other words if you are looking for a laptop with content consumption a major part of your usage, this should definitely be up on your list to consider. So for casual users, movie enthusiasts, video editors, business users, home users, programmers, pretty much everyone except those looking for the best raw performance they can get on a laptop could consider this.

Who shouldn't get this?

Those who are looking to get the best performing laptops for the price and does not need as much portability (regular performance-oriented laptops weigh around 2.3Kg) may look into other gaming/performance laptop alternatives such as Asus Strix, Lenovo Legion, HP Omen, Apple Macbook lineup etc which can offer much more performance for resource-intensive tasks for extended periods of time due to its higher wattage internals and necessary cooling solutions.
